What Is I Am Second Day?

OK, if you’re here, you’ve probably read or heard somewhere about this little thing called I Am Second Day. We’ve been talking a lot about it, and that’s because we’re really excited about it. Why? Because YOU are a big part of why it even exists. So here’s what I Am Second Day is all about and how YOU can get involved.

Fifteen years ago, I Am Second started as a simple idea: use the power of media to show the world the hope of Jesus and penetrate a noisy and broken world with a message of peace. It started with a few powerful stories. Stories of absolute rock bottom. Stories of despair. And ultimately, stories of hope, redemption and reconciliation. 

Since then, it’s grown. It’s now a movement. Not because we wanted it to be, but because you turned it into one. I Am Second isn’t us, it’s you. And the movement you started has evolved into a lifestyle. A lifestyle of putting yourself second with Jesus and others first. Of sharing your story — your  radical dependence on Jesus — no matter how hopeless it seems. Of pointing to his ultimate story, the gospel, that weaves all of us together.

Fifteen years of real and raw. Fifteen years of mind-boggling impact. And 15 years of life-changing relationships, whether online or at music festivals, prisons, churches or school assemblies.

But I Am Second was never just about VIEWING. It was always about DOING as well. Baked into our DNA is the idea of action; how you can take what you’ve seen and do something about it. It’s not enough to just watch a film or read a story. It has to be — it needs to be — followed by action.

Over the last 15 years, you’ve shown up in numerous and big ways. Ways we could have never imagined. But there’s so much more to be done. We want every single person to go from VIEWING to DOING. To not just be passive consumers of media but active doers. To take what they’ve seen and become an agent of change wherever they are.

I Am Second Day offers tangible ways for you to move the mission forward while celebrating all God has done. Throughout the day on 2/22, we’ll be celebrating what God has and is still doing through I Am Second. On our social media channels, you’ll see videos, hear interviews and get the inside scoop on some of our favorite projects. We’ll talk with Seconds and share some incredible stories and updates. It’s an exciting day of access to celebrating where we’ve been and where we’re headed.

On this day of action, you can go from viewing to doing in three particular ways:

1. We challenge you to share one of your favorite or impactful I Am Second films with someone. 

2. Share your story that day and then tell us how that went on social using #iamsecondday. Need help learning your faith story or how to share the gospel? We have tools and resources just for you!

3. Finally, you can also join with I Am Second as a financial partner to bring the hope of Jesus to others. As a non-profit, I Am Second relies on one-time donations or recurring gifts from donors just like you. And in fact, we’ve had a generous partner step up to match any first-time giver donation.
